This website has been around since 2002, or at least that’s the year the first copy was archived on archive.org. If you look at the top, you can see a few screenshots showing how the site has evolved over the years.
For those of you who know me or have visited the site from time to time, it’s no secret that the main reason I started this page was my involvement in the Free Software movement.
Back then, there weren’t as many top-level domains you could chose from, and schiessle.org was the only one still available, so I went with it. To be honest, I was also drawn to the similarity between the typography of this domain and the domain name of the founder of the Free Software movement.
But, to be fair, the whole .org thing never really made much sense. I’m not an organization; I’m a human being. So, after 22 years, it feels like the right time to move on. With some nostalgia, I’ve decided to switch to schiessle.eu. It feels more personal, aligns with my commitment to the idea of Europe and fit better the more diverse content I publish these days. I’m confident this website will stick around for at least another 22 years!
