What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.
Björn Schießle has been active in the Free Software (aka Open Source) movement since the mid-1990s. Initially excited by the technical possibilities, the political and social aspects soon became the main reason why he stayed involved until today — and why he joined the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE), where he continues to serve as a board member.
He dedicated his whole career to working with Free Software. Starting during his PhD studies at the university, he later joined ownCloud as a software engineer and, in 2016, co-founded Nextcloud.
Today, as Director Sales Engineering at Nextcloud, he uses his 20+ years of experience in the Open Source software industry to lead the company’s Sales Engineering team, managing a distributed group spanning multiple time zones. Björn is a strong advocate of diversity and remote, asynchronous, and self-organized work models — approaches he believes are essential to building high-performing teams in today’s global environment.
