Björn Schießle has been active in the Free Software (aka Open Source) movement since the mid-1990s. Initially excited by the technical possibilities, the political and social aspects soon became the main reason why he stayed involved until today.

He has dedicated his career to working exclusively with Free Software. Starting during his PhD studies at the university, he later joined ownCloud and, in 2016, co-founded Nextcloud. During his whole career he worked with international and distributed teams.

Today, he uses his 20+ years of experience in the Open Source software industry to lead Nextcloud’s PreSales team, where he manages a distributed team operating across multiple time zones and cultural backgrounds. Björn is a strong advocate of diverse teams and remote, asynchronous and self-organized ways of working — he sees them as key to building strong, effective teams in today’s world.
